Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers about how repairs work at Precision Time — estimates, timeframes, parts, payment and collection. If your question is not covered here, contact us and we will be happy to help.
These answers are provided for convenience. Our Terms and Conditions govern our services.
What kinds of watches and clocks do you repair?
Mechanical and quartz watches, wall, mantel and pendulum clocks, antique and vintage pieces, and luxury watches. No one brand defines the bench.
If you are unsure whether we can repair your item, contact us — the easiest way is the contact form, or you can email info@precisiontime.ca or call +1 (514) 538-9599. We will be happy to review your repair request.
How much will my repair cost?
Every repair is different — from the inspection to sourcing the parts, each timepiece brings its own challenges — so there is no standard price list. Every issue requires an inspection before a quote can be provided.
Inspection and diagnosis are free: we inspect your timepiece and give you a quote before any work begins.
We do not carry out chargeable work before you approve the estimate, and if more work is needed than estimated, we contact you first.
How long will my repair take?
It depends on the condition of the piece and the availability of parts. Most repairs are completed within 10 business days — we keep a wide range of spare parts in stock, but some vintage components must be sourced, so any timeframe we give is an estimate rather than a guarantee.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
No appointment is needed — walk in during our opening hours, which are kept current on our Google listing, and check this website for any closure notices.
We encourage you to email info@precisiontime.ca or call +1 (514) 538-9599 ahead of time to make sure someone is available to assist you.
Do you replace watch batteries while I wait?
Maybe — it depends on the workload in the shop that day. Contact us first and we will tell you whether it can be done while you wait or whether the watch will need to stay with us.
What parts do you use?
Where a part must be replaced, we use new, refurbished or equivalent parts suitable for the piece. If a manufacturer part is unavailable, we tell you what we propose to use.
Is there a warranty on your work?
Our professionals always stand behind our service and our commitment to you. Our rule is simple: if something we repaired is not right, contact us, bring it back, and we will put it right.
Will my watch still be water resistant after service?
Our experts follow each manufacturer's guidelines: every timepiece we service, lubricate or grease is maintained to the brand's specifications.
How do I pay?
Prices are in Canadian dollars, and payment is due when the work is complete, before the timepiece is returned. Please note that we do not accept debit or credit card payments.
I'm travelling from outside Montreal — is it worth the trip?
Clients regularly travel in from across Quebec and the Ottawa region for work they cannot get done closer to home.
If you are driving a distance, please email info@precisiontime.ca, call +1 (514) 538-9599, or fill out our contact form — we will get right back to you.
Can I mail in my watch or clock?
Yes — we recommend contacting us ahead of time by emailing info@precisiontime.ca, calling +1 (514) 538-9599, or filling out our contact form.
After discussing with us, clients ship timepieces to us from elsewhere in Canada and the United States at their own shipping cost. Because a repair can only be quoted after inspection, please include a prepaid return label so we can ship the piece back in case you decide not to proceed after the quote.
My timepiece is valuable or sentimental — anything I should tell you?
Yes — please tell us before leaving a piece with us if it has exceptional value. High-value, vintage and heirloom timepieces pass through the workshop regularly, and knowing what a piece means to you helps us handle it accordingly.
Do you buy, sell or appraise watches?
We do not appraise watches. On occasion we may buy or sell watches and parts, depending on availability and demand.
Will photos of my timepiece appear on your website?
We photograph timepieces as part of our repair process and may use those images to show examples of our work, without ever showing your name or contact details. If you prefer that your piece not be shown, tell us and we will not use it.
How will I know when my timepiece is ready?
We contact you when it is ready using the details you gave us — please collect it promptly, and stay in touch if you need us to hold it; we accommodate requests where we can.
How do I start a repair?
Submit the contact form with a description of the problem — photos help, especially of any broken parts. We review your information and respond as soon as possible. Service is available in English and in French.
